A 7-session pre-scheduled group class to learn how to use the pottery wheel more extensively. This is an advanced level class and participants should have a good understanding and knowledge of how to throw on the wheel. If you have not used the wheel before, please attend our 6-week beginner class first (see link below), followed by our intermediate class. We alternate between our class levels when scheduling them, so signing up for all 3 would make it an 18-session consecutive class.
Max 6 people per class (we only have 6 wheels currently), please note that each session does fill quickly due to the limited size. All tools/materials needed are included. This is for teens and adults only.
Seven week Lesson is set up as follows:
Class 1: 1.5 hours*. Includes a demonstration/refresher, and instructed time on the wheel to practice the basics in case it has been a while since participants have used the wheel. We will use this session to make some basic bowls to prep for our second class.
Class 2: Approx 1-1.5 hours*. This class is held the following day from Class 1. We will be learning how to trim our bowls created in the first class and give them a proper foot ring.
Class 3: 1.5-2 Hours*. Held 1 week after Class 1. We will be playing with different types of clay such as Stoneware and porcelain to explore the differences between them. We will create forms to continue working on in class 4. A demonstration on handles will be given as well as creating lids.
Class 4: 1.5 hours*. Held the following day from class 3 (1 week after class 2). We will be learning about sgraffito, carving, inlays and more while completing the pieces started in class 3.
Class 5: 2 hours* Held 1 week after class 3. We will be learning how to construct a teapot from scratch. Body, lid, handle and spout. There will be time to create your own but class 6 will allow more time to practice and make your own.
Class 6: A continuation of class 5, we will be working on a teapot (optional tea set if time and clay allows).
Class 7: 2 weeks after the 6th class to allow time for drying and firing. This is a Painting Session only, time varies. Paint/decorate up to 7 pieces made in earlier classes (must be completed in 1 session). Painting techniques will be taught. Once finished, painted pottery will be ready for pick up in approx 1 week.
*Clean up/washing (ie maintenance and proper care) of your wheel is part of the class, please allow 15-20 mins for clean up after the end of each class.
Price listed is per person. Please change the quantity to the number of people attending to ensure enough wheels are reserved. Payment must be made in full at time of booking to hold the pottery wheels for your group. Listed class price is guaranteed if booked 3 or more days in advance, last-minute bookings, if possible, may incur additional fees to accommodate.
